More about our B&B

The region

The Western Cape area at the southern tip of the African continent attracts by far the most visitors in South Africa. The area extends along the Indian and Atlantic Oceans in a wide arc around Cape Town, the capital of this province.

With the metropolis of Cape Town and it's famous Waterfront, the beautiful Cape Peninsula, the magnificent wine-growing areas around Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, the famous Garden Route along the south coast as well as the cultural and culinary diversity, the Western Cape Province is a fascinating holiday destination.

You are in the middle of wine country and popular destinations such as the famous Vergelegen wine estate or the Erinvale Golf Club and the Helderberg Nature Reserve are practically on your doorstep.

The country

South Africa is one of the most beautiful countries in the world and is on top of the list for many travellers. The diversity of landscape is hard to beat. It’s not for nothing South Africa Tourism advertises with the slogan: "The World in One Country".

3000 km coastline with numerous beautiful beaches, mountains as high as the Alps, high plateaus and dry lands, forests, lakes and river scenery, the most species-rich vegetation zones of the world, wildlife and nature parks with wild animals, South Africa really offers something for every taste.

The possibilities are so diverse that you could quickly lose track. We gladly help you to sort the "wheat from the chaff".

What our guests say about Somerset Sights B&B:

„I spent a heavenly fortnight at Somerset Sights. The rooms are tastefully decorated, clean, comfortable and airy, with very comfy beds. Each room has a tv, a mini bar and direct access to the lovely gardens with pool. The view over false bay is stimply stunning, with a mountainrange on the left, Strand and ocean straight up and the bay to the right. On some days you can even see the cape.

Since the B&B only has 4 rooms (3 of which in the main house), the atmosphere is quiet and familiar in a very good way. You can have your privacy or a chat, whatever you feel like. Peter and Mai are great hosts, most friendly and accomodating; nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them and they were always there to help out with pointers on restaurants, sights, golf courses, vineyards, trips or anything else that might interest you.

The daily breakfast is simply yummy and caters to every taste (be it eggs and bacon, toast and yam or greek yoghurt with honey, granola and a selection of delicious fruits...). The time was very agreeable, too: 9-10 am :-)

The B&B is situated in an estate, so it's very safe and that's exactly how I felt. Due to its location, a car or some other form of transport would be good to get around. The Helderberg and its nature reserve are just around the corner, great for hiking. There are many good restaurants and golf courses in the area. I can highly recommend Somerset Sights and am looking forward to returning. Soon, hopefully.“

„I can honestly say that this is probably the best service I have ever had in a guest house. The guest house is lovely and spotlessly clean. The owners, Peter and Mai were absolutely professional. The view over false bay is simply stunning. The gardens are lovely and is a peaceful area to relax next to the swimming pool.“
